axle ai, as well as some of the other key network technologies were the difference between being disconnected totally from our business due to COVID-19, and operating nearly at regular capacity.”

— Gerry Field, APT Vice President of Technology

BOSTON, MA, USA, April 7, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — When the staff of American Public Television, like many media companies, faced the prospect of abruptly working from home due to coronavirus measures, they were ready. APT is a syndicator; a leading non-profit organization whose mission is to find, curate, license, and distribute content to public television stations. Operating with a modest staff, they’ve amassed a current and legacy catalog of hundreds of series and single event programs encompassing documentaries, education, travel, performance, news and current affairs programs ranging from Lidia’s Kitchen to Rick Steves’ Europe to Doc Martin and Midsomer Murders.

Just a few years ago, APT’s workflows were tied to physical media like tapes and hard drives. Upon implementing axle ai, they were able to economically transition to a browser-based, shared media workflow. So, when recently faced with COVID-19 work restrictions, they were able to swiftly navigate to a distributed approach almost overnight. “axle ai, as well as some of the other key network technologies we’ve implemented, like VPN and cloud storage, were the difference between being disconnected totally from our business due to COVID-19, and being able to operate nearly at regular capacity.” says APT Vice President of Technology Gerry Field.

A better way to screen

APT began to transition to digital distribution and file-based workflows, with the goal “to turn our screening rooms into ingest rooms, and move our screening functions right onto everybody’s desktop”. Put off by the cost and complexity of MAM systems they investigated, Field and his team opted for axle ai’s budget-friendly software, which takes advantage of industry standards and cost-effective storage to simplify networked video workflows.

If content comes in as files, great; if it comes in as tape, we ingest, and in either case create proxies for screening through axle,” Gerry continued. Now, he added, “Anything being submitted to us is coming in as a file in a broadcast format. We’ve broken away from limited on-prem ‘silos’ we had before, and extend access to more content at the desktop regardless of the location. Of course, this same capability has made it possible for us to handle the switch to a fully-remote workforce, which would have been unthinkable previously.”

Designed for easy adoption

“Most of all, axle made it possible to get a system appropriately scaled for what we need, and for the resources that we have. The two equal parts are cost and complexity. There are a lot of asset management products in the market that, particularly for my needs, are tremendously overbuilt. We needed something that could be installed easily and give us access, quickly, to the content that we need to see.” I was able to get it spun up and operational inside of three days and get axle ai into the adoption cycle.”

The fact that axle is not technically demanding was very important: “APT has good talented and technically aware staff but we’re not the kind of company that has a deep engineering department, or a stable of editors” Gerry added. “I could possibly do deeper, more interesting things with a more expensive system, but my experience with things like that is they sound good, but wind up being a boat anchor.”

Expansion and growth

As APT moves to a new public television member station interconnection system, axle has been integrated with APT back-end business systems, so licensing and media access rights information are linked to axle. “That’s important as APT owns very little programming; it’s almost all licensed for distribution under contracts. Under the new system, “material comes into our cloud, is synced from our cloud to local storage and axle makes proxy copies for screening and tracking.”

Gerry has seen APT’s use of axle ai grow, especially for review of underwriting spots and to help suppliers in negotiating with underwriters. “In addition to full length programs, we’re now including promos, sizzle reels, clips, and other promotional material related to the program.” Gerry said the staff is now using axle to make programming notes, “extending desktop screening access to collaboration and sharing comments about the content as well.”

Radically Simple Resonates

Gerry cites axle’s ‘radically simple’ principle as a key reason for adopting it. “It’s one of the things that got me interested. That, and the experience and credibility of the founders in both developing media asset management systems and knowing how they were actually used.” The recent switch from a single work location to a work-from-home team approach required under COVID-19 public health mandates worldwide, turned out to be achievable almost overnight due to axle ai’s affordable, accessible browser-based HD/4K workflows.

Snap Dance Films’s Debut Feature Shows We Need To Allow Men The Chance To Talk About IVF And Infertility

The Easy Bit Film

The Easy Bit Film

The film, directed by Tom Webb and produced by Zara Ballantyne-Grove follows six men speaking candidly on the various stages of fertility treatment

I knew that by making this film, I could help other men going through fertility treatment feel less alone during one of the toughest experiences of their lives”

— Tom Webb

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, April 7, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — “The Easy Bit” Is Set For Digital Release On April 29th

London based production company Snap Dance Films have announced the release of their debut feature; “The Easy Bit”. The documentary, which will be self-distributed with support from Fertility Road, The Fertility Foundation and Life Whisperer on April 29th, seeks to highlight the lack of mental health support for men going through IVF and the trauma of being unable to conceive.

The film, directed by Tom Webb and produced by Zara Ballantyne-Grove, received its world premiere at the Raindance Film Festival in September 2019 and follows six men speaking candidly on the various stages of fertility treatment. From the initial diagnosis through to making the decision to try fertility treatment, going to the clinic, the hormone treatments, egg collection and sample giving, the implantation procedure, the two-week wait and finally taking the test.

Infertility affects one in seven couples in the UK with more and more infertile couples seeking fertility treatment in the form of Artificial Reproductive Technology (ART). This means fertility solutions such as Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) and Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI). Little support or information about what it is like for a man to experience IVF is made available, with the focus, both in terms of treatment options and support, primarily on women.

Throughout the film, the common themes are that of isolation, a sense of helplessness and a distinct lack of available guidance. The men talk about the uncertainty of the treatments, being unable to be in the room with their partners during egg collection, a very invasive and difficult step in IVF, and feeling discounted by medical staff. This played upon both the men’s inability to talk openly on the topic, bottling their emotions, and feeling as if something is wrong with them as males, causing them to question their masculinity and value.

The men further highlight that the topic is seldom handled with the same consideration as other sensitive matters despite the emotional damage it has shown to take on men and women who are going through IVF. This has been tragically exacerbated by the current situation around COVID-19, as couples around the country are forced to put their treatment on hold and live with further uncertainty while tackling something that is already costly and stressful.

Webb, who went through IVF with his wife had this to say on his decision to make the film:

“I knew that by making this film, I could help other men going through fertility treatment feel less alone during one of the toughest experiences of their lives”

The potential causes of male infertility are touched upon in the film but it also highlights that sometimes a diagnosis is not possible. In a January 2019 article for TIME, Mandy Oaklander stated:

“Many cases of male infertility are idiopathic, meaning their cause is a mystery to doctors. Genetics or other health factors might be at play, or it might be something environmental.”

While a number of the men involved in the film have since succeeded in having children through IVF, others have not been so lucky but have used their circumstances as a means of providing comfort for those struggling. One couple, Jonny and Sophie, started the BBC Podcast “Long Road To Baby”. While one of the other participants, Gareth, created a private Facebook group called Men's Fertility Support which currently has over 1,000 active users.

The filmmakers hope is that more support is made readily available for men going through IVF treatment alongside their partners. Given the number of couples struggling with infertility around the world, the focus placed upon encouraging men to open up about their feelings and the emotional cost is evidence that more needs to be done.

A theatrical premiere for the film is being scheduled for later this year. Pre-orders for the film can be made on Vimeo on Demand for £3.49. For updates on the film you can find them on Instagram and Twitter.

Poignant and hard-hitting, this social, and emotionally charged juggernaut sends a message of how to deal with global panic during a time of uncertainty.

A strategy I found was to practice living in harmony with an environment I can't control, by appreciating the act of balancing my actions, expectations, and emotions. Hence my title, 'The Balance.'"”

— Nicc Angeles,

LOS ANGELES, CA, USA, April 6, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Nicc Angeles, an Indie artist from Los Angeles, is pleased to announce the launch of his solo debut EP titled "The Balance." The album is available on his website at www.NiccAngeles.com, iTunes, Google Store, Amazon, Bandcamp, and can be streamed on Spotify, and Rhythmic-Rebellion.com.

Created during our recent massive social and political transformations, including the panic toward awareness of global warming, Angeles titled his EP "The Balance" after the social/political overtones influencing him during the writing process. In many ways, the songs are a reflection of Angeles's musical opinion on how to deal with the daunting situations.

Angeles has a beautiful gift for mixing clever lyrics along with smart hooks, presenting reliably well-made and earnest tunes, which hark back to the golden age of radio-friendly alt-rock. But Angeles's mixture of styles also gives him a sound of his own, which may be the sound of the future. With comparisons to such a diverse group of artists as The Avalanches, Chet Faker, Kendrick Lamar, The Black Keys, Kamasi Washington, David Bowie, Grandson, Mumford And Sons, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Waylon Jennings, and Radiohead, Angeles's sound can only be described as unique. All in all, Angeles brings unapologetic and true feelings into communication.

The new EP is composed of five different songs. The song selection was built around the title track "The Balance" because of its global sentiment. Going from thought-provoking lyrics over heartfelt melodies to the dirty, garage band chorus, driven by growling vocals, this song encompasses the alarmed temperament of our current, financially, and environmentally threatened world. The other four songs tell stories that fit nicely as subcategories under the blanket of The Balance's big picture.

When asked what drove him to produce this new album, Angeles answered, "I went through several personal hardships during these years, including the loss of my father to cancer. I became very depressed with a sense of powerlessness, and couldn't stop dwelling on the meaning of life, or the lack thereof. I live in my head more than the physical world, so to cope, I armed my mind with strategies to accept… everything. One such strategy I found was to practice living in harmony with an environment I can't control, by appreciating the act of balancing my actions, expectations, and emotions. Hence my title, 'The Balance.'"

His song "Over This" is an anthem for being over anything in life, especially relationships. A modern rock ballad that is performed as an Electronica, R&B Rock Hybrid, "Over This" is undoubtedly destined to be the breakup song of the summer. The official music video for "Over This," is now available on YouTube.

This powerful collection of five songs, including "Ever After," "Blow," "Over This," "The Balance," and "Safety Off" was performed, recorded, and mixed by Angeles at his Plow House Studio, with mastering done by Sandy Chila, who co-produced Christina Aguilera's song "Twice" on 2018 "Liberation" c/d and co-wrote the song "Do You Want to Come Over?" by Britney Spears on her 2016 Best Pop Album "Glory."

A portion of the proceeds from every purchased download of 'The Balance' will go to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy and the CDC Foundation to fund those in need during the COVID-19 Pandemic, as well as the Great Australian Animal Victims Fire Appeal to help rehabilitate the animals and their ecosystem in Australia after the recent wildfires there.

CLAUSTROPHOBIC THRILLER ‘MINE 9’ DEBUTS ON NETFLIX IN APRIL AS ENTIRE COUNTRY HUNKERS DOWN TO FIGHT COVID-19

Mine 9 – now streaming on Netflix

Mine 9 – now streaming on Netflix

I'm hoping folks will stay home, stay safe and Netflix-and-chill with MINE 9; it will give you an up-close look at just how real and dangerous it can be when safety concerns and warnings are ignored.”

— Clint James, who plays a rugged miner in MINE 9

NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, April 7, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Claustrophobic survival thriller MINE 9, one of the best-reviewed independent films of the past year is available to NETFLIX subscribers in this U.S.A. and around the world beginning April 6th.

"AN IMMERSIVE NAILBITER!" – San Jose Mercury News
“ONE OF THE BEST THRILLERS OF 2019!” – Unseen Films
“BEST FEATURE FILM-DRAMA AWARD WINNER” – Cinequest

The heart-stopping story of tragedy, terror, and survival follows nine Appalachian coal miners trapped two miles underground after a methane explosion. With only an hour’s supply of oxygen, the race is on to escape alive.

One of the film’s stars Kevin Sizemore (Woodlawn, Chicago Fire, Fear The Walking Dead, Timeless) plays Daniel, a blue-collar coal miner much like the ones he grew up around in his hometown of Princeton West Virginia. Sizemore says, “It's appropriate that MINE 9 is being released on NETFLIX now when most Americans are sheltered-at-home and more cognizant than ever about the dangerous sacrifices essential workers are making for the rest of us”.

“In times like we’re all living through now, we see just how important our grocery store and restaurant workers, truck drivers, medical and emergency services personnel are to the fabric of this country. Back in Appalachia where I grew up, coal mining towns are filled with brave men and women just like that who risk their lives every day just to put food on their families' tables, because those are the only decent jobs to be had. Everyone knows the risk, everyone knows the danger, and everyone hopes their loved ones come home alive.”

MINE 9 cast member Clint James, who is currently sheltered-in-place in New York, the U.S. city hit hardest by the pandemic, agrees. James, who plays John, a rugged miner with a checkered past in MINE 9, says “Coal mining is a dangerous business and I've learned to appreciate the folks that still do that job and others like it. I'm hoping folks will stay home, stay safe and Netflix-and-chill with MINE 9; it will give you an up-close look at just how real and dangerous it can be when safety concerns are ignored, and warnings fall on deaf ears. I’d say it’s pretty damn appropriate for what we’re going through right now.”

The award-winning movie from director/producer Eddie Mensore received excellent reviews from Variety, the Los Angeles Times, RogerEbert.com, the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the National Post, the San Jose Mercury News, RottenTomatoes.com and many others.

MINE 9 is also available on DVD and Blu-ray at Walmart.com, Target.com, and Amazon.com and many other leading digital platforms including Amazon, InDemand, iTunes, GooglePlay and more. It was released by 123 Go Films and distributed by Alliance/Distribution Solutions.

Dr James is the first evangelist in the world to become an EDM artist. His single 'Name Above' is being released on Fri April 10th.

BOSTON, MA, USA, April 6, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Dr James Sideras, a successful evangelist and founder of WhatTV, is releasing his much-awaited EDM debut single, ‘Name Above.’ He is the first Christian evangelist in the world to become an EDM artist. The single is being released on Fri April 10th as part of an EP that will be available in May. The song was written and co-produced with Lukus Simari, whose accolades include two no. 1 hits in Africa, as well as productions with various Grammy award winning artists. According to PRS for music, EDM is the fastest growing festival genre in the world, representing 40% of the world’s top 100 album sales.

Dr James’s single, ‘Name Above’ was produced to fill a niche in the market, as there are relatively few Christian artists in the EDM space. His goal is to inspire a generation by combining dynamic electronic music with a clear message of hope in Jesus Christ—a message that is especially relevant with the global threat of pandemic Covid-19. The current crisis is frightening hundreds of millions of people all over the world. Dr James’s message is that faith overcomes fear, and only by calling on the name of Jesus in prayer can we save both ourselves, and our crisis-stricken world. A 30-second sample of his single can be heard by clicking here.

‘Name Above’ is being released by WhatMusic group, a brand-new Christian label based in Boston, MA. Our mission is to produce and distribute gospel-centric EDM music that brings healing and transformation to everyone who hears it.

Actor, Advocate Jesse Williams Says ‘Free Them Now’ – Urges Release Of People In Jail During COVID-19 Pandemic

Star lends support to national #FreeAndSafe campaign calling to release people in jails during public health pandemic

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, UNITED STATES, April 3, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Jesse Williams, star of Grey’s Anatomy and racial justice advocate, has taken to social media to champion the need to decarcerate jails around the country during the COVID-19 pandemic. Joining forces with racial justice and civil rights organization Advancement Project National Office, Williams has asked fans to call policymakers in Miami, Detroit, Baton Rouge, and St. Louis, and demand people in jail are released and made #FreeAndSafe from the coronavirus.

“I wanna’ suggest one thing that we could be thinking about and that we could be doing… the impact of this COVID-19 pandemic on our almost 700,000 brothers and sisters around this country locked away in local jails who don’t have access to consistent running water, or soap, or certainly hand sanitizer, can’t social distance, and don't have adequate health care … [in] jails where people are locked up for traffic tickets and unpaid fines and petty misdemeanors but they don’t have the money to pay for their bail,” said Williams in an Instagram video posted Wednesday night.

Williams is throwing his support behind a growing coalition of advocates, organizations, and social influencers calling for decarceration in jails, prisons, and detention centers amidst the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic.

People are jailed in cramped quarters, cannot practice social distancing and don’t have regular access to soap or adequate healthcare. Jails and prisons fail to provide sufficient hand soap and alcohol-based sanitizers to the people detained in and working in these settings. Once inside this perfect breeding ground, the virus will rapidly spread, leading to countless illnesses and deaths both in and out of the facility.

Williams urges people to visit freeandsafenow.org, a website that provides a call to action allowing people around the country to call policymakers, urging them to release community members to their families where they can be safe and practice physical distancing. The website also provides information on each jurisdiction where legal action is being explored, including St. Louis, Miami, Detroit, and East Baton Rouge, challenging sheriffs, courts and cities to release community members that are in jail during the coronavirus pandemic. The #FreeAndSafe campaign also includes petitions for communities with large populations in detention in Arizona and Pennsylvania. Advancement Project National Office is leading litigation alongside its national and grassroots partners urging decarceration in an effort to save the lives of hundreds of thousands of people who are in jail simply because they could not afford bail and be released on their own recognizance.

“It’s a cash bail country, by and large, and some people just don’t have 300 bucks to buy themselves out. And those that do have a little bit more green paper can. We know that’s unfair …They’re the ones who are actually trapped,” said Williams.

“People in the jail, those who work there, and the general public are at greater risk if we leave people inside than if we let them return home. Wealth-based pretrial detention criminalizes poverty, destroys lives, and exacerbates already existing systemic racism in the criminal legal system,” said Advancement Project National Office Justice Project Director Thomas B. Harvey.

“The Justice Project at Advancement Project is proud to use litigation, policy advocacy, communications and coalition-building strategies to assist community partners and allies in transforming policing and abolishing the criminalization of poverty and race.”

If these residents are not released to their families in the coming days, health care services in jails and prisons will quickly be overwhelmed, leaving a devastating death toll. This death toll won’t only affect those inside once the inadequate healthcare inside the jail has been pushed to its limits.

“Every minute counts. There are people that are trapped … in steel and concrete cages and because they didn’t have a couple of hundred bucks. They’re human beings too. They deserve our love, empathy and attention,” said Williams to his fans on a video that has since been viewed more than 575,000 times in under 24 hours.
