This family owned business, which has been selling tin ceilings for 60 years, is now, through on-line purchasing, able to take orders 24 hours, 7 days a week.
HOUSTON, TEXAS, USA, May 20, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Chelsea Decorative Metal Company has been selling tin ceilings since the 1950s. It was started in New York, but now found it’s home in Houston, Texas. It’s a family owned business now run by Glenn “The Tinman” Eldridge, who is celebrating his 50th anniversary with the company. The website can be found at www.Tinman.com. They manufacture these tin ceiling metal sheets. To help celebrate, Chelsea has just made the tin ceilings available to be purchased on-line at www.Tinman.com. This was a long time dream of The Tinman to have people buy directly from the website. Glenn Eldridge says, “On-line service is like having our business open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day”. Although he does add that talking with our professionals can help with design selection, quantity needed for your job and instructional help with installation.
It’s nice to know after 50 years Chelsea still manufactures tin ceilings that were first introduced in the 1860’s, but they have also added new finishes to their already decorative ceiling sheets. They always had the factory shiny silver, which you can paint directly to with an oil-based paint or protect with a oil-based clear coat, but now also available are the sheets with a shiny copper finish and several hand-painted faux finishes.
Chelsea's tin tile ceilings are used both commercially and residentially. Commercially, They are used in restaurants, office buildings, bars and night clubs, retail stores, churches and movie sets. You can see the tin ceiling tiles in "Coyote Ugly" and "Spiderman". Many TV shows use the tin ceiling tiles for background sets, but more recently the home improvement shows have used them because of the low cost, easy install and decorativeness that they want their viewer to know are available.
Residentially they are used in any room, adding elegance to a dining room, fun to a playroom and nostalgia to the whole house. Kitchen remodeling with these tile ceilings are very popular. You can do a ceiling or a backsplash with a faux (hand painted) finish or use their copper sheets. The tin ceiling tiles can be used as a backsplash, a wainscoting or a wall covering. Whether new construction or remodeling tin ceiling sheets are a cost efficient way to decorate your area. Also available are cornices, friezes, a filler and a medallion.
The original designs range from Americana and Art Deco to Turn of the Century and Victorian. Most sheets from Chelsea are 2’ x 4’, which they call the 2’ x 4’ advantage. These advantages are that they cover more footage (8 sq.ft.), less seams, easier and faster install and makes the pattern more uniform because of the 4’ length. The pattern sizes gives you variety for areas you wish to cover. There is a 6” repeat pattern for small areas like a hall, bathroom or kitchen backsplash. A 12” pattern for most areas in a home or business and 24” patterns for high ceilings and is often used commercially. Again, if you decide you would like help, you can call Chelsea at 713 721 9200 for expert help from their staff.
The best installation is on plywood, although some people run furring strips and it’s installed with hammer and nail or nail gun. If you send a drawing to Chelsea they layout the ceiling the way they would install it and show you installer where to start. Most recent people have also been using the sheet in suspended ceilings for easy access above the ceiling, but this application is done more commercially. The do-it-yourselfers love the metal tiles because of it's ease.
Chelsea's tin ceilings are priced reasonably and their consulting and service makes customers very happy. Since they manufacture, their stock is plentiful and orders can usually be shipped immediately except for the painted finishes which are sent to their painter and can take 3-4 weeks. Not only do they manufacture, but they will be glad to answer any and all questions from either you, your builder or your designer. These ceilings bring back nostalgia, you either remember an ice cream parlor, an old drug store or a hardware store that had a tin ceiling somewhere in your youth.
Using tin ceilings are a beautiful way to decorate any area at a very economical cost. We like the 2’ x 4’ advantage that Chelsea Decorative Metal Company offers. They are centrally located in the country, which will help shipping costs. Their consultant are very knowledgeable and love to help. But if you wish you can order on-line now since The Tinman has opened that door. Go to Tinman.com and marvel at the styles of yesteryear that work in so many places today.
