Film director Richard Rossi will choose 2 actors for roles in “Canaan Land” from the top-voted video auditions submitted through the Clapit social media app.

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, November 29, 2017 / — Award-winning director Richard Rossi announced today a nationwide open call for actors to submit auditions for two roles in his new film “Canaan Land” via the social media app Clapit, an increasingly popular and innovative talent discovery app that partners with film and television productions to discover aspiring actors. The film will be shot in Los Angeles in January 2018. All audition videos must be submitted through Clapit in accordance with Clapit’s competition rules, terms and guidelines. For information on the Open Call, which is sponsored by Actors Connection, please visit

Richard Rossi is a prolific filmmaker based in Los Angeles. He is best known for writing, directing, producing, and acting in the award-winning feature films “Sister Aimee: The Aimee Semple McPherson Story” (2006) and “Baseball's Last Hero: 21 Clemente Stories” (2013).

Rossi’s latest project, “Canaan Land,” is a feature film drama about a female faith healing evangelist who falls in love with a con man. Rossi will star in the film alongside Rebecca Holden from the TV megahit “Knight Rider.”

To support the open call for “Canaan Land,” Rossi has partnered with the social media entertainment app Clapit, where emerging actors can be discovered via an innovative, community-driven audition process from their mobile devices.

Actors can apply for a role by uploading a twenty second video audition to Clapit, showcasing their acting talent in accordance with the character breakdowns posted on the app. The most clapped audition videos, ranked by the Clapit community, will be showcased on Clapit’s “Best” feed. Rossi will select one male winner from the top five most clapped male auditions and one female winner from the top five most clapped female auditions – a democratic crowd-sourced voting system to provide two actors with their first big breaks.

Entrants download Clapit for free from the iTunes App Store, shoot and upload their videos, hashtag their entries #richardrossi, and then spread the word by asking friends to download Clapit and “clap” (vote) for them. All entries are subject to eligibility requirements and the official contest rule. The open call wraps on December 20, 2017 at 11:59 P.M. EST.

“As an actor,” said Rossi, “I really appreciate the service that Clapit is offering to actors. Hollywood is such a difficult industry to break into, and Clapit is leveling the playing field. I’m excited to cast two actors from clapit into ‘Canaan Land.’”

”We are thrilled to partner with Richard Rossi,” said Clapit CEO and co-founder Mary Jane Bulseco. “It is so hard for aspiring actors to be cast in a speaking role, especially in a feature film like ‘Canaan Land.’ We are thankful that Richard has partnered with us so we can provide this opportunity to cast two unknown actors straight into roles in Richard’s film.”

Actors Connection is a proud sponsor of Clapit’s #richardrossi open call initiative. With over 200 seminars, classes and special events each month, Actors Connection has been connecting actors with leading talent agents, casting directors and personal managers since 1991.

New Online Series from Alex Cubis and Joel Nix Speaks To the Current Climate Around Masculinity

Poster for “Masculinity in Crisis” starring Alex Cubis

Director Joel Nix and actor Alex Cubis release the trailer for new video series, "Masculinity in Crisis," produced using HitREcord.

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, November 29, 2017 / — Alex Cubis and Joel Nix announced the launch of their project via Medium and Vimeo. The series, comprised of three-parts exploring concerns and themes around masculinity as drawn from one millennial’s perspective, is available to stream via a private link.

Writer and actor Alex Cubis explains “I was encountering a running theme over the past few months that either men are too toxic, or too soft – there’s like a crisis of masculinity. I thought that I’d selectively emphasise thoughts from my own life and channel it into some storytelling, but hopefully make it universally resonant in the process and trigger interesting conversation.”

“Masculinity in Crisis” is currently screening at festivals, but viewers can preview the series online by including the hashtag masculinityincrisis in a post on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter and tagging Joel (@nixfilm) and Alex (@alexjcubis). Their team will then send the user a private link.

More information about the project is found on the series’ website:
Cubis explains that HitREcord, the online collaborative production company founded and owned by actor and director Joseph Gordon-Levitt, offered the opportunity to “make the project interactive, so that it wasn’t just isolated to its running time.”

Oklahoma native and LA-based Joel Nix has previously directed music videos and commercials, and has extensive experience in physical production including most recently on Netflix’s “Santa Clarita Diet,” the FX shows “Baskets” with Zach Galifianakis and “Legion” with Aubrey Plaza. He is father to 1-year old Zeke and husband to wife Ali.

In the long-run, Joel shares a desire to tell stories “aim to inspire audiences to live their lives for the better.” Nix, 27, is currently developing a short film project in the pursuit of making a feature. The ultimate goal, he says, would be to “direct projects of the same calibre as ‘Game of Thrones.’ A show or film that’s equally entertaining and thought-provoking, using both bad and good characters to make an audience think about how to live their lives in a better way. Also, there’s no denying big-budgets are fun.”

Australian actor Alex Cubis has worked in television, film and theatre in Australia, including on “Atomic Kingdom,” “Public Offence,” “Mako Mermaids” and “Paradise Island Club,” and produced and starred in Show Offs which screened at the Cannés Court Metrage. In the US, Cubis has created and acted in content and for ‘Funny or Die’, and will next make an appearance on season 2 of Netflix’s “Dear White People.” He says his ultimate goal is to “work with Aaron Sorkin.”

Nix explains his hopes for the series.

“We hope that our project – even as small as it is – encourages men to have an honest and pragmatic conversation with themselves, amongst each other or with their significant other, about whether they’re their best selves.”

Makes a Great Gift, "We are Woodstock" the Novel. It Tells a Love Story at the Greatest Concert of the Hippie Movement.

This novel puts you right on the grounds of the Woodstock Festival

A love story that takes place at the Woodstock Festival

Between these pages is a wonderful love story

Learn of the performances, behind the scene shenanigans, and the future of the stars

This novel puts you right on the grounds of the Woodstock Festival

The Woodstock Festival: 3 Days of Peace & Music

Through the pages of this historical, fictional, autobiographical novel of the Woodstock Festival, the author will send you back in time to that very weekend.

A love story that takes place at the Woodstock Festival.”

— Glenn Eldridge

HOUSTON, TX, UNITED STATES, November 29, 2017 / — HOUSTON, TEXAS, USA, November, 2017 / —

This wonderful novel puts you on Yasgur’s Farm on the weekend of August 15, 1969. You will be at the Woodstock Music & Art Fair. It’s an easy read and a fun trip as the Hippie Movement of the 1960s comes to a close. It's a novel, not a book of facts. You will live the concert as if you were there. This concert had the who’s who of rock groups of the time, when musicians weren’t seen on TV like today. This was the place that many hippies got their first glimpse of the musical artists, who’s music shaped us all.

This festival was billed as 3 Days of Peace & Music and as Max Yasgur uttered on stage, “Nothing but peace and music.” What makes this book different is that it isn’t from one of the promoters or one of the performers point of view, this novel is by one of the spectators, a person in the audience, a person like you. As you read, he tells you of his story, which to him is one of the greatest weekend of his life. Glenn Eldridge, Author of We are Woodstock, describes the novel as, "A love story that takes place at the Woodstock Festival." It starts with Glenn getting fired at work and getting dumped by his girlfriend and then meeting Gail the first night there.

He purchased his tickets when they first went on sale and still has them today. They can be seen on the back cover of the book. He arrives a day early with a couple of friends, so they miss the traffic jam, but you will learn all about that. How? As the reader you will learn it as the central character does, though radio reports and headlines of the news, that are sometimes read from the stage. Also you will hear all the announcements, where the infirmaries can be found and which acid to avoid.

This novel is made interesting because the words translates to your eyes as the whole festival opens up to your senses. The grounds of Yasgur’s Farm is described from the camping areas to the concert area to the Hog Farm area, where people are feed for free. You will see the crowds like ocean waves covering the landscape. The way they are dressed and the way so many came unprepared for the weekend. You’ll learn how the promoters found Max Yasgur’s Farm for this Aquarian Exposition, another name it was known by, and what a great deal Max made for himself when leasing his land, since the festival was scheduled to begin in 30 days from when they found him. There are many fun facts to learn from this book before, during and after this historic event.

You’ll learn about the performer too stoned to get on stage, others stoned that went on anyway. One group refuse to play in the rain and it did rain. One artist had to sing to prove who she was because she forgot her backstage pass. You’ll learn about the emcee who was chosen less than an hour before his first announcement and the fact that the Governor was going to end the concert by calling in the troops. There is so much to learn in this fun read.

Did I mention that between the main character going skinny dipping, dealing with dumb girls and wondering whether he should be broken hearted about his girlfriend dumbing him, that he meets a free-spirited flower child named Gail. She not only wins Glenn’s heart, but as the reader you to will fall in love with her.

Makes a great gift for the holiday, so you can relive your hippie years or let your children know what summed up the 60’s in general. It was the first really big concert that brought people from all over the country and the world to celebrate a way of life.

This is a fictional, historical autobiographical story of the greatest Rock & Roll event ever. It will never happen again. People just came to hear the music, be peaceful and see the artists that they only knew through their music. Remember back in 1969, the Mets won the World Series, Manson did his dirty deed and we landed on the moon. Woodstock was the final expression of a generation, after that we left the 60s and went on to the 70s.

If you weren’t there, this novel will put you there and if you were, let this novel take you back. By the way, Michael Lang wanted Roy Rogers to end the concert singing “Happy Trail.” Roy himself said, “If I were there with all those hippies, they would have boo’d me off the stage.” I’m not so sure they would have, but for an informative story and a delightful love story, pick up a copy and read We are Woodstock. You can also find this book on the selves at the Woodstock Museum in Upstate New York. Visit it.

An excerpt from "We are Woodstock":

The crowd is opening up like the Red Sea as she continues yelling my name as if to be looking for me, while she holds my hand and pulls me behind her. We finally get as close to the stage as we can, which is two rows from the front. At this point she spins around and puts her arms around my neck and kisses me. Now I can see what she had seen through the binoculars. On the stage, written on the drum is “The Who.” She remembered they were the one group I really wanted to see. Then comes an announcement from the stage,

“Ladies and Gentlemen, would you please show your appreciation, they came to us especially for this show, please warmly welcome, "The Who!”

You are cordially invited to the party of the season at the Stahlbaums' on Christmas Eve. Yes…it’s The Nutcracker.

Available now at online and retail booksellers.

As a complement to the live production, Fossil Mountain Publishing has released a retelling of the ballet, Prince Dustin and Clara: Deep In The Black Forest.

There is no limit to what a person can do that has been inspired by the arts!”

— Fossil Mountain Publishing

DALLAS, TEXAS, UNITED STATES, November 29, 2017 / — Twas the night before Christmas…and the party begins. From New York to San Francisco; London to Australia, little ballerinas and pint-sized soldiers have given up their e-devices and favorite television shows to attend rehearsals for their town’s local production of The Nutcracker. Although the youngest members of the cast, they have to manage to get their homework done, often-times sprawled out on the floor of the rehearsal studio; continue their ballet classes, typically 3 or more times a week; all while meeting the rigorous Nutcracker rehearsal schedule. However, these young performers wouldn’t have it any other way. Soon they will be on stage wearing a beautiful party dress of satin or perhaps mouse ears and whiskers, dancing alongside the professional cast in a spectacular performance of one of the season’s most popular productions, The Nutcracker.

While rehearsing on stage, only the strong voice of the Production’s Director and the sound of the music can be heard. Everyone else, performers waiting patiently to rehearse and parents anxiously watching, can barely be heard. They softly whisper to avoid gaining the attention of the commanding Director. This is in stark contrast to what is happening backstage. Backstage, there’s a whirlwind of excitement! Production Assistants can be seen scurrying about; costumes must be adjusted, and props must be repaired. The list is endless in what goes on before opening night. The young performers don’t seem to notice the organized chaos all around them. When not doing homework, they can be heard chattering and laughing, as they play card games. And although some reality TV shows may depict otherwise, in reality, many of the young performers often form lasting friendships and close bonds.

As a complement to your holiday festivities and entertainment, Fossil Mountain Publishing is excited to announce the release of PRINCE DUSTIN AND CLARA: DEEP IN THE BLACK FOREST, a re-telling of The Nutcracker. The author, Daniel Lee Nicholson performed in The Nutcracker for 10 years. In his debut novel, he was sure to include the essence of the ballet, including many of the dance scenes. As Clara and the Nutcracker Prince, Prince Dustin, race to escape the wrath of Egon, they encounter one adventure after another Deep in the Black Forest. The Black Forest is the setting of the Snow Scene. Nicholson incorporated much of the allure of the Black Forest in his book. Nicholson’s tale is both fantasy and adventure to appeal to those young and young-at-heart; girls and lads, dancers and non-dancers alike.

PRINCE DUSTIN AND CLARA: DEEP IN THE BLACK FOREST is available through libraries and at most online and retail booksellers.

About Daniel Lee Nicholson:
Daniel Lee Nicholson was born and raised in the Midwest. He has been a performer and ambassador of the performing and fine arts ever since his first performance as a soldier in The Nutcracker in Chicago. He resides with his wife in the Los Angeles area and works in Productions in the Media and Entertainment industry. DEEP IN THE BLACK FOREST, is his debut novel in the series PRINCE DUSTIN AND CLARA.

Urban Ideas Announces Independent Artists and Creatives Performance, Promotion and Distribution Opportunities for 2018

Urban Ideas Limited Partnership, LLP and its independent label and publishing group are unveiling its 2018 growth plans which means big things for creatives.

It takes a team, a vision, a talent and a lot of fortune to be successful. There are no guarantees, but its worth the effort.”

— Michael Towns Senior Partner Urban Ideas, LLP

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, UNITED STATES, November 28, 2017 / — How do you get started, make money and build a career or business in the entertainment or creative space? Well there are many roads, but invariably you need to know someone. Urban Ideas Limited Partnership, LLP ("Urban Ideas") and its independent label group which includes Chicago Creed Music and Media Group (Chicago focused multi-genre label), Urban Creed Music and Media Group (national multi-genre label), Indie Chart Music Group (national multi-genre label with aggregator focus) and Kingdom Records (national gospel label) along with Urban Ideas Publishing Group and Urban Ideas Consulting Group whose tag line is "The Creative Commerce People" are the folks to know.

On Thursday November 30th at 7:30 PM at the Music Garage located at 345 N. Loomis in the Showcase Room on the 5th floor you will learn about the company's vision along with the opportunities it is forecasting to emerge for the right talents. So who should attend? Well according to Columbia Entrepreneurship and Finance professor and Urban Ideas partner and Chicago Creed label chief Michael Towns "This event is for anyone who wants to learn about creative entrepreneurship. It is for people who want to make money as artists and entrepreneurs. Whether you are selected by us or you choose another path, the information should serve you well."

What kind of talent? Sherree Lee Creative Director and A&R for Chicago Creed says we are thinking outside the box. We want singers, musicians, comedians, Broadway singer-actor types. We are also seeking various genres. We want jazz, pop, kids musical acts, R&B, hip-hop, rock, spoken word, inspirational, gospel, blues, EDM and more. The caveat is that we are really focusing on younger acts. Mind you, we do have our eyes open for that special seasoned act, but our plan is really looking to develop 18 to 28 year old artists. We are casting a wide net looking for talented people to help get them established and create some fantastic content. Our age constraint is only for the music program. So comedians, entrepreneurs and authors just come. Oh yeah, we also have some great internship opportunities.

What's the catch? Sherree laughs and says well that is why you have to attend. Seriously, the important thing is that we are looking for people who are serious, focused and can take direction. We have had a few stops and starts with folks who couldn't make a decision, follow through or their view of the business didn't mesh with our knowledge. We will talk about that as well.

Join Us at the Music Garage to meet the team and to learn more: 3 Mics Thursdays Events, Compilations Records, Covers Music Strategy, Tour Opportunities, Promotional Opportunities, Book Publishing, And More…

The informational will take place on Thrusday, November 30, 2017 a the Music Garage, 345 North Loomis, Chicago, IL in the Showcase Room (RM 515) at 7:30 PM CST.
